Material Agents
“Material Agents” was the culmination of the graduate class 704 Museum Studies at UWM. The exhibition was a combined effort to create a cohesive show using objects from the UWM Art Collection based around the concept of transcendence through artwork.
The class dealt with difficulties in a balanced division of labor, but myself and other classmates stepped in to ensure all of the necessary work was completed. I completed the design work for the logo and catalogue, as well as created catalogue templates for future use in course-related exhibition catalogues. I researched objects from the collection and wrote both catalogue entries and object labels.
The central object of my studies was a rubbing taken from a Thai temple depicting battle elephants. I used my essay on the topic as the foundation for my presentation “Transcendence and Elephants” at the 2023 Midwest Art Historical Society conference.
